I have always loved the idea of vision boards but I never really knew what to put on mine. All the ones I saw were collages of huge goals and I just didn't feel like I had that many big goals to fill up my board. This year I realized though, that you don't need a bunch of major life time goals to fill up and make your own vision board. If this is something you're interested in keep reading to see what the meaning behind everything on my vision board is!
I have never really been one to make New Years resolutions, they're a little too cliche in my opinion and I feel like I am always setting myself up for failure. I am pretty good at setting goals and working to reach them, but one new goal to stick to just because its the New Year does not appeal to me. If it works for you, more power to ya, but its just not my thing.
All that to say I do still love the idea of the New Year being a fresh start and a good time to evaluate yourself as a person, things you want to focus on throughout the year, and any goals you want to attain.
Now I had originally set out to buy poster board, print out all of the things, sit down with a glue stick and make a real life collage. BUT I then realized I do not own a printer and all of the printers on base that I have access to do not print in color, and I was not about to have a black and white boring ole vision board as my first one ever. SO I decided to make a digital one. Even better, as i was making it, I realized how much easier it would probably be for others to do as well!
The meaning behind my vision board
Lets start with the word creativity. I have never felt like the most creative person on the planet, but I love to write and I figured the best way to work on being creative would be with something I already do and love so much.
Finding my purpose in God. I feel like as young adults, we are tasked with "finding" our identity or purpose in life. But as a follower of Christ we were born with one very important purpose, to love others and to spread the name of Jesus. So I want to stop worrying so much about finding my purpose in a job or whatever else, and focus on my God given purpose.
"Don't worry about anything, but instead pray about everything" - Phil. 4:6 This one is pretty self explanatory, but I suffer from severe anxiety so this can seem impossible at times. But it is something I truly wanted to focus on accomplishing this year.
Wanderlust & Adventure. Thanks to my husbands brave service in the US Air Force, we have been blessed to live in Europe for another two years. While this can seem like a dream from the outside, it can be hard and discouraging being away from everyone and everything you know all of the time. But I want to be sure we traveling and experience new things as much as possible, because I know we are so lucky to have the opportunity, and we will be sad once we move back to the States.
INTENTIONAL. I have decided that this is my word of the year. It truly encompasses so much of the person I want to become. I want to make sure everything I do or say is whole hearted, pure, and intentional.
Save $$$. Again, pretty self explanatory. I have a shopping problem. It drives my husband crazy. Enough said lol
Grace not perfection. This is something I want to focus on within myself and with other people. We put so much pressure on ourselves to be perfect, but we should start showing grace to ourselves because we are made in the image of God and he loves everything about us. In turn, I feel like sometimes we expect perfection out of others. But our partners, friends, brothers, sisters, parents, co-workers, children, the person taking your order at a restaurant or at Starbucks, none of us are perfect and they all deserve grace.
Learn: German, Piano, ASL. All of these are things I know a little of. But I want to learn even more! Fluent German and ASL. Harder, beautiful songs on the piano.
"And if not he is still good". If i don't get what I want. When things don't go my way. When I have been wronged. When tragedy strikes. This is what I want to remember.
The cute little apple drawing to me represents dedication in my school work.
Mental Health. Something I want to always prioritize no matter what my day or week looks like.
A Strong Marriage. I want to prioritize my marriage and make sure it is strong and healthy and rooted in the Lord always.
Blog. I know blogging is such a "thing" everyone does now, but i personally think that's so cool! Plus it is such a fun and creative outlet for me and I want to make time to do more of it.
"Refuse to let the world corrupt you" -James 1:27. I want to live a Godly life, not a worldly life.
BE KIND. plain and simple, people.
Books. I have always been a total book nerd but I want to read even more this year. Less hours binge watching tv shows and more hours reading new books.
Healthy Living. I am pretty good about eating good foods and getting 4-5 workouts in every week, but I guess this one kinda falls back on my word intentional. I want to be intentional about what I am putting in my body and how much I workout.
How you can make your own
So, how can you make your own vision board?
I started out by sitting down in a quiet space with a pen and paper and I asked myself the question "what do I want?" What do I want my life to look life? What do I want people to remember me by? What do I want to be better at? What do I want to do? What do I want to prioritize?
Then I took to pinterest and google. I searched for cute graphics to match my answers to those questions.
Then I thought of words to represent my answers to those questions.
And I slapped it all together.
I promise it is not a daunting task, though it may seem. It took me an hour to; think, find the graphics, and put it together.
I personally used Canva on my laptop, its free and easy to use. You can also download the Canva app (totally free) or use any other "collage maker" type app. Or if you're luckier than me and have access to a color printer, you can make one the old fashion way and put it up on your wall!
I decided to make mine my home screen background!
Send me your vision board if you make one, I would love to see them!
