Why I caved & bought a Kindle + Books Recs

April 13, 2020

I will start by telling you that I am a serious physical book lover. I love having my own copy of every book I read. I love the smell of new books. Nothing is better than holding a book in your hands and actually turning every page as you read. BUT technology was made for convenience, and right now I have to give in to it, but I swear I have a good excuse.

So, with this virus going on, like a lot of people, I am not working. at. all. I can honestly say that I do miss working, because I love my job, but it has been nice having all this time to spend with Alec, and read, clean, organize, etc. That being said, I have gone through soooo many books in these last four weeks.

Living overseas, my options for places to buy books are limited to the base exchange (which is basically the on base "Walmart" but much smaller) and Amazon. I have read almost every book that interests me at the BX, and even though Amazon ships to me the fastest, it still takes a week. I have been going through 3-5 books a week. So, Amazon literally cannot ship fast enough. Also, that's a lot of money on books if I keep going at this rate.
So, I caved and bought myself an Amazon Kindle.
Honestly, I love it. I really did not think I would ever say that.
But it is so convenient, and cute!
There are a couple different models: the basic Kindle, the Kindle Paperwhite, and the Kindle Oasis. I of course compared the three models and read reviews before purchasing. Basically, the Oasis is the most "fancy". The paperwhite and the Oasis come in colors other than black and white. The only other perk I saw of the other two was more storage and being waterproof. But when it came down to it, I like white, and I just wanted the device to read, no fancy extras for me. So, I settled on the basic Kindle, which is also the most affordable option

Here are some books I have read (*) or want to read, that you can get for free with Kindle Unlimited:

ALL of the Harry Potter Books are free with Kindle Unlimited*

Disclaimer: I am on a serious Thriller kick right now because while Alec was gone I did not want to read any or I would freak myself out, so most of these are Thrillers with the exception of two or three!

Also, here is the Kindle & Kindle Case I bought!
