His & Hers by Alice Feeney

My Rating: 9/10

Alice Feeney's latest novel has been a hot topic in the world of Mystery & Thriller recently, and although I had never read any of her books before, this one caught my eye. Needless to say, I am beyond glad I picked up this book because once I did, I could not put it down. I loved it so much that I immediately went back and read her other novels as well and I was not disappointed. Alice Feeney, you have yourself another devoted fan.

"There are two sides to every story: yours and mine, ours and theirs, his and hers. Which means someone is always lying."

When news reporter Anna Andrews is sent back to her small hometown to cover a murder, she is less than thrilled. She has had some of the worst news come down on her at her job, it has been ages since she visited Blackdown, and to top it all off, when she gets to the location of the murder, the lead detective is none other than her ex-husband. Could this get any worse for Anna? The answer is yes.

Lead Detective Jack is not particularly happy with this situation either. The murder victim isn't exactly a stranger, and the last thing he needed was his ex-wife covering the story. Because she might not know it yet, but Anna knows the victim too. As if Jack didn't already have enough emotional baggage to carry, his whole world is about to be turned upside down.

This case is shaking everything up in tiny Blackdown and as it gets increasingly worse, it threatens to ruin the lives of these two characters. Because everyone is keeping secrets, and the only way to keep them a secret, is to kill.

Narrated both from Jack and Anna's persepctives, this twisty suspense is a great summer read. His & Hers had one of the most surprising and clever endings of any book I have read. It left me shocked, yet I was physically laughing at just how much I had been fooled. The finale was so satisfying and mind-boggling that I had to re-read it! You do not want to wait to read this book!

Have you read any of Alice Feeney's incredible novels?

  1. An enjoyable thriller with an interesting if slightly implausible twist. Fast paced, easy read that flies along. Worth a read.
